Creating an Acne Diet that Works for You
Many people could benefit from an acne diet. After all, who has not heard the saying that chocolate gives you pimples? I believe we all have. So instead of causing a break out, you could prevent it by watching what you eat.
But, an acne diet is a very hard thing to establish. This is very personal and its based on your body’s unique response to certain foods. There are rules to follow, but progress is usually by trial and error. Watch your skin carefully. Write down all changes. You could keep a photo journal. If and when your acne diminishes stick to the diet plan you are on at the time.
The following guidelines can help get you started on an acne diet:
* 1. Increase your protein intake - Some dermatologists believe that protein is associated with clearer skin. They believe this because protein has an enzyme in it that limits oil production. Oily skin seems to be extremely prone to breakouts.
* Don’t eat carbs - Its not necessary to cut out all carbohydrates. But you should keep them limited to about 40 percent of your diet. This is because carbohydrates can stimulate oil production. This is the reason that junk food has the reputation that it causes acne. In reality junk food just has a high carb content.
* Drinking green tea is very good for you - If possible, drink the real stuff. Brewing the green tea is the best way to drink it. However, if you can’t stand the stuff, then natural green tea drinks will do. Green tea will limit the creation of androgen. Breakouts have been known to be caused by a hormone called androgen.
* You must restrict the amount of salt you take in - Salt usually contains iodine. This being the reason table salt can be called “iodized salt.” Iodine can be one of the biggest inflammatory agents in people with acne.
While watching what you eat, you should also be very careful with what you put on your face. You should know what ingredients are in your beauty products if you have acne. Those who are prone to acne should look for oil free moisturizers. These are least likely to cause a breakout. If you wear makeup, then consider investing in mineral makeup. Many dermatologists believe that mineral makeup can actually alleviate acne problems and enhance the results of your acne diet.
