How To Write A Novel For The First Time

Many people say they want to write a novel, but more than half of them will never actually complete it. Do you want to be one of the few success stories and have a wonderful novel? This article can help new authors in their quest to discover how to write a novel.

First you need a good idea for your novel. This is called a plot, which is basically your storyline. Be creative! You can write about whatever you desire to! Regardless of the type of plot you have, there should always be some type of conflict for the main character. The end of the novel should provide the resolution of the problem. Don’t worry if you don’t have all the details lined out, a lot of it will fall into place as you write.

Character creation is your next step. Characters drive the action of your novel, and poor characters can kill a good story faster than a bad plot. In the majority of novels, you will find a protagonist and an antagonist involved in some kind of conflict. The protagonist is your main character, while the antagonist is the main villainous character. Your secondary characters are just as important, so don’t let them fall flat. All of your characters need to be realistic, with their own pasts, personalities, and vernacular.

Now, it’s time for the hardest part: the writing. This is where so many people fail or give up because it can often be a difficult process. You should create a relaxing writing space for yourself where there are no distractions. Definitely have a good chair that won’t hurt your back after hours and hours of writing! Make writing a habit. Write something every day, whether it is a sentence or a chapter. Getting into the habit of writing every day will make it more likely that you will actually finish your novel.

Once you have a fair amount of written material, start editing and rewriting it. Revisions and rewriting are incredibly vital to a novel’s success. A novel can always be improved, so you can never do too many revisions! Maybe even let a close friend or family member read and critique your work. This can be very helpful.

Once you have done all the revisions you want, you have completed your novel. Learning how to write a novel before you started was a nice asset, wasn’t it? Now if you feel you want to try to publish your work, you can start the publishing process!
